This work is my specialty, and closest to my own heart as a survivor of abuse and trauma myself. Learn more about my story here.

Trauma is any experience that overwhelms the brain and body's ability to cope. Anyone can experience a trauma, and it can come from all kinds of experiences, from major life-threatening events to abuse to societal oppression. All of them are valid, painful experiences that may be in need of healing and integration in you. It is never shameful, nor a mark of weakness--even the strongest people can experience trauma.

Experiencing a trauma can result in:
-
ongoing physical problems like chronic pain, fatigue, tension, migraines, poor posture, trouble sleeping, being easily startled, and auto-immune disorders
-
emotional problems like anxiety, depression, mood swings, and feeling numb
-
mental issues with memory, concentration, focus, having flashbacks, feeling strongly emotional without knowing why, and emotional states that have nothing to do with what's happening now
-
Relationship problems with friends, family, and intimate partners, and with coworkers, bosses, authority figures, and more; having trouble reaching out or connecting socially, or receiving help and support
-
spiritual problems like not being fully in your body and senses, being ungrounded, not knowing who you really are, being unable to find meaning or joy in life, and being unable to imagine a positive future

All of these issues are the result of unprocessed trauma. And trauma can be healed, with the right support.

Mental health care can be VERY important for survivors of trauma and abuse. Most mental health practitioners are trained in caring for the brain and mind (psychiatric and cognitive therapies), and some are also trained in helping with relationships (counseling and marriage and family therapies). I strongly recommend that survivors of abuse and trauma find the support of a licensed mental health care provider (though it's not a requirement for working with me).

BUT most mental health practitioners are NOT trained in holistically supporting the body or the spirit, which is where my work comes in. I have been studying and specializing in the release and integration of trauma in the body and energy systems for over ten years. While I don't diagnose or treat mental illnesses, my work goes hand-in-hand with mental health care and I do support and coach trauma and abuse survivors through mindfulness, energy healing, movement therapies, and bodywork.

Trauma can get stuck in the body as sensation, posture, breathing patterns, tension, tenderness and hypersensitivity, pain, emotions, memory fragments, and scar tissue. I can help release these issues from the body safely and help the whole self integrate those experiences gently. I help my clients through movement therapies like yoga and unwinding, through breathwork and meditation, and through bodywork modalities like MFR, deep tissue massage, craniosacral therapy, and trigger point therapy. I am also trained in supporting the spiritual aspects of the natural self-healing processes through guided meditation and energy work.
Being mindful and present with whatever sensations or memories are naturally released during the session can produce really profound, whole-person healing and reduce or eliminate triggers. Many of my clients have successfully healed their spiritual beliefs, relationships, careers, bodies, and minds and live healthier, more stable and enjoyable lives as a result.
